The polystyrene serves as a void former and permanent shuttering. The Polyform system must be capable of supporting the construction loads after which it has no consequence on the strength of the slab.

The blocks are designed to support the construction loads between lines of temporary supports with a safety factor of 2.5.  The ribs are keyed into the blocks which tests show provides a 15% sharing of loads between adjoining blocks.

It is advisable to do a non destructive block load test at the beginning of every project to check on strength and to give confidence to those working on the deck.
